An artists touch…

When people find out what I do for a living one of the first things they say is “I wish you could come over every morning and put my makeup on.” When I first started in this career I would just laugh and our conversation would go on. After hearing the same comment for about the 100th time an idea clicked. I can’t be at 100 ladies houses each morning doing makeup, but I can put out a product that allows them to get the same results. That is what I based my cosmetics off of. Each foundation formula or lipstick shade was picked with my kit in mind. They are the tools that I most often use, the shades I most often go to, and the secrets that I pull out here and there to make the look “just right.” KeelieNicole is about taking the professional artists makeup kit and turning it into a user friendly version of the same thing that you can use in your very own home. Through my blog I will explain how you can use some of the products to get the same picture perfect look that I achieved on TV and in print.

All of my cosmetics will soon be available for ordering on my online store! In the meantime the full line is available at Sparkle Beauty Bar.

Photo shoots galore!

Apr

I have been so incredibly busy lately between working at the salon and doing freelance photo shoot work. I have been so lucky to have the opportunity to work with some fantastic photographers lately.

Cully Wright…

I work with Cully on a very regular basis. He is an amazing photographer with a great eye for fashion and beauty. Cully uses natural light to bring out the spark in his subjects. Recently we did a shoot with a young girl named Paige Gordon. Some of you may recognize her as she played the ghost girl on Stephen Kings Rose Red mini series. Paige is in a transition right now from young girl to young adult and in this shoot we were trying to capture an older and more mature version of Paige.

Sylvie Blum…

I also recently had the pleasure of working with a German native photographer by the name of Sylvie Blum. Sylvie was recently chosen to be in a book about the 10 greatest photographers in the world. She lives in Portland but is always jet setting around the globe from LA to Germany. Sylvie is mostly known for her beautiful artistic female nudes, but has been looking for a talented artist in the Portland area to create some great beauty images with her. i was lucky enough to be invited to her studio and do just that! I am so very pleased to see the results of the shoot, and i think you will be too!

Busy, busy, busy!

I have several weeks booked out now and through the month of June for photo shoots, so I will definitely be sharing more of my work with you soon. I also will be headed out to meet with an agent from Ryan Artists agency who is very interested in my work….we will see what happens there….I am hoping I can sign on with them. Only time will tell.
Until then….Ciao ciao! (as Sylvie would say)

Extend the life of your makeup brushes

Nov

I love my makeup brushes. I hand picked each and every one of them for a particular reason. There are two brushes in particular that I could not live without while on a job. Luckily I take great care of them to extend their life.

Great makeup does not stop at the right eyeshadow color and the perfect brush. Sanitizing plays a huge role, not only in the health of your skin, but also in the longevity of your brushes life. You could spend $50 on one single brush and it could be the softest and most effective brush in your kit…but two months later it starts to feel scratchy. Perhaps it doesn’t blend as well as it used to. You get angry. You say to yourself “I just spent $50 on a brush that is supposed to be great, yet two months later it is practically useless!” The answer lies within sanitation.

Protect your investment…

Brushes and makeup tools are an investment. If you spend good money on buying them in the first place then you need to follow that up with taking proper care of them. “How do you do that?” It is really quite simple. As a makeup artist working on jobs consistently and using my brushes on many faces, I end up sanitizing them several times per week. For someone using brushes only on themselves, you do not have to be as extreme on the cleaning as I am, but you really should still be sanitizing your brushes. (more…)

Want your eyeshadow to blend easily?

Nov

If you love wearing bold eyeshadow colors, or dark smokey eyes but have a hard time getting them to blend then try the following trick:

  1. Pick out an eyeshadow that is very similar to your skin color.
  2. Make sure it is a satin or matte finish, and has no frost, shimmer or sparkle to it.
  3. Apply this eyeshadow color from your lid all the way up to your brow bone. You shouldn’t notice much difference in color from your own skin.
  4. Now you have created a smooth powdery base on which to blend your other eyeshadows without compromising the colors.

Silicone based foundations

Nov
12

I have decided that silicone based foundations are by far my favorite type. They glide on smooth and sit comfortably on the face. You can sheer them down for moderate coverage or leave them as they are and use them as concealers. They look completely natural and allow your skins natural glow to come through. Currently I am using Cinema Secrets silicone based cream foundations in my kit. Since I have started using CS foundation my work has been amplified. The models skin looks so pure and radiant, and they glide on so easily with such great coverage that I don\’t have to spend extra time trying to cover tricky spots…and the best thing about them? They stand up great to sweat, water and heat and save your clothes by being virtually smudge proof!
